About 40 participate in Eagle football camp

Campbellsville middle and high school football teams hosted Eagle Football Camp on May 30 through June 1, 2017, with about 40 students participating.

Former NFL player Tony Driver worked with camp participants, in addition to CHS head football coach Dale Estes.



Driver was a defensive back for the Buffalo Bills. He was chosen in the sixth round of the 2001 draft, and played for the Bills in 2001 and 2002. Before his professional career, he played football at the University of Notre Dame.

CHS assistant coaches Herb Wiseman, Blake Milby, Robbie Gribbins, Bronson Gowdy, Will Griffin and Aaron Webb also pitched in, as did youth coaches Jon Hawkins and John Gholston.

Camp was for students entering first through eighth grades and focused on fundamentals of each offensive and defensive position.

Each participant received a camp T-shirt.

On the final day of camp, participants competed in kicking, throwing and catching. Winners are as follow:
  • First- and second-grade division - Owen Smith, kicking and throwing; and Griff Thomas, catching.
  • Third- and fourth-grade division - Maddox Hawkins, kicking; Kadin Coppage, catching; and Rajon Taylor, throwing.
  • Fifth- and sixth-grade division - Tashaun Hart, kicking and throwing; and Jaron Johnson, catching.
  • Seventh- and eighth-grade division - Konner Forbis, kicking; Deondre Weathers, catching; and Tuff Harper, throwing.
  • Students attending the camp include:
  • First- and second-grade division - Owen Smith, Micah Goodwin, Griff Thomas and Tyce Owens.
  • Third- and fourth-grade division - Chance Owens, Kadin Coppage, Rajon Taylor, John Gholston, Lucas Gribbins, Maddox Hawkins, Cameron Estes, Austin Sloan, Jaron Johnson and Christian Hart.
  • Fifth- and sixth-grade division - Tashaun Hart, Logan England, Kaleb Miller and Ryan Grubbs.
  • Seventh- and eighth-grade division - Tuff Harper, Damon Johnson, Logan Raikes, Logan Phillips, Jadan Furman, Deondre Weathers, Keondre Weathers, Konner Forbis and Devin Kinser.
