Guy Babin: An apple fallen close to the tree . . . ' Working and saving his money to buy badly needed ignition parts, a battery and other items, Conner was able to virtually will the old family tractor back to life and its classic glory. . . ' - GUY BABIN Click on headline for story with photo By Guy Babiin An apple fallen really close to the tree.... Conner Scott lovingly restoring life (and shine) to the family Farmall H. Until very recently the ole H had been resting in prolonged dusty repose tucked in the equipment shed next to the tobacco barn, alongside idle tobacco sticks and other well-used implements of a bygone era. Cold, worn, seemingly lifeless--but very much alive in the imagination of a young man from Bennett Ridge. Conner wanted with all his might to bring her back to life, even before he was old enough and able to even know what to do. Working and saving his money to buy badly needed ignition parts, a battery and other items, Conner was able to virtually will the old family tractor back to life and its classic glory. It's noteworthy that he's pictured tending his beloved H in front of the retired family dairy his dad worked for so many years. Conner was born into a vastly different world than earlier generations of Scotts; but the love for a way of life in the country working the land, taking care of animals, and yes--a love for the machines and tools that go with all of that still beckons the spirit of a teenager today. I know his dad Tony; the apple tree, beams with pride. This story was posted on 2017-06-03 16:52:16
