Columbia Police investigate death of student at Lindsey Wilson

Autopsy is being performed at the State Medical Examiners Office in Louisville. No foul play is suspected

On 4-20-2017 Adair County 911 received a call from Lindsey Wilson College stating that a female student had been found unresponsive at McCandless Hall. CPD Officers Josh Brockman and Drew Conn were dispatched along with Adair County Deputy Brandon Hitch to the location at 12:56amCT along with Adair County EMS.



Upon arrival officers located 19-year-old Mercedes Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio in her dorm room.

Smith was pronounced deceased by Adair County EMS at 01:06amCT and Adair County Coroner Todd Akin was notified .

The death is being investigated by Ofc. Josh Brockman.

An autopsy is scheduled at the State Medical Examiners office in Louisville KY Friday morning with Coroner Akin and Ofc Brockman attending.

At this time no foul play is suspected.
