Storm 5 Apr 2017 - State Assessment Map shows area damage State is assessing damage in Metcalfe/Green, Taylor/Casey, and northwestern Cumberland County. Adair County has experienced limited damage, Mike Keltner reports Click on headline for story with state damage survey By Mike Keltner, Adair County Emergency Director The accompanying map has the damage survey locations marked by the national Weather Service. I would like everyone to observe how close the damage was to Adair County. Compared to our neighboring counties we were very fortunate with only a few trees / debris in the roadway and a couple short term power outages. In total 6 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for parts of Adair County (some areas close to the county lines), 1 Tornado Warning (Northern Adair) and 1 wind advisories. With the supercell storms part of the county had sunshine and others received hail up to a quarter size and strong winds. The Code Red Weather Warning system proved effective, only alerting the residents in the NWS warning polygon based on the address input during sign up. Tornado Sirens were activated by Adair 911 only in the North communities in close proximity to the tornado warning location, Cane Valley, Holmes Bend, Knifley and Pellyton. Coordination with the Adair Weather Command and our multi agency weather spotters network provided live information to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) partially activated in the EM Office / Adair 911 Center. The EOC directly reported live information to the NWS which helped in determining storm warnings and advisories. In summary, Adair County was fortunate compared to surrounding counties and I would like to thank everyone for participating in preparedness efforts during this storm event.
