LWC Women's Tennis downs Cumberlands 8-1 on Thursday Charlie Balcom Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated Cumberlands (Ky.) by an 8-1 margin on Thursday at the UC Tennis Complex. In the non-conference matchup, the No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders (10-4) swept doubles play before winning five of the six singles battles en route to the win over the Patriots (6-6). Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric got the Blue Raiders off to the early lead over Marian Bogajo and Maria Ochoa with an 8-1 win in the second-seeded doubles match. Maria Prados Cid and Fiona Curty followed with an 8-5 victory against Isabella Dale and Jaclyn Jewell at the top doubles flight. Natalia Kattah and Alex Shchipakina completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Denee Lyttle and Luka Lyttle at the No. 3 doubles match. Prados Cid made it a 4-0 Blue Raider lead with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Denee Lyttle at the No. 4 singles match. Curty then mathematically sealed the victory as she edged Jewell 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles match. Gligic, Peric and Gabriella Pedroza each picked up victories in their respective singles matches. The lone win for Cumberlands came at the No. 1 singles match when Dale, who ranks No. 6 in the ITA individual rankings, edged out No. 12-ranked Shchipakina 6-4, 6-2.
