CU to host Lexington organist in recital 21 March 2017 By Kyrsten Hill, student news writer, Office of University Communications CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University will be hosting Jane Johnson of Lexington, a church organist for nearly 40 years who has served as organist at Crestwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lexington since 2000, will perform at Campbellsville University's Noon Organ Recital at 12:20pmET Tuesday, March 21, 2017. The recital will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 213 University Drive, Campbellsville, next door to the Gosser Fine Arts Center on campus. The recital lasts until 12:50pmET in order for those attending to return to work on their lunch break. Johnson will play a variety of organ literature by Lubeck, Medelssohn, Buxtehude, Uehlein, J.S. Bach, Frescobaldi, Near and Laurin. Johnson received a B.M.M.E. degree from the University of Kentucky where she studied organ with Professor Arnold Blackburn and also earned a Master of Music degree with an emphasis in Sacred Music. She received a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Church Music from Lexington Theology Seminary. Johnson is a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and also holds the Guild's Service Playing Certificate. She recently finished her second term as dean of the Lexington Chapter AGO. When not on the organ bench, Johnson plays upright bass with the Backroom String Band and also attempts to play hammered dulcimer and Celtic harp. She is recently retired from the UK College of Fine Arts, where she was director of student affairs. Johnson and her husband, Bill, spend their spare time touring the back roads in one of their antique cars.
