LWC Softball v. Pikeville at home 18-19 Mar 2017

COLUMBIA, KY - (Fri 17 Mar 2017) - No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball begins Mid-South Conference play this weekend when it welcomes Pikeville (KY) to Lindsey Wilson Park, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. The four-game series begins at 2pmCT, Saturday, March 18, 2017 with the second game of the doubleheader to follow. Action continues with a second doubleheader starting at12pmNoonCT, Sunday, December 19, 2017.



The series was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson (12-7) last competed on Friday as part of the Crossover Challenge. The Blue Raiders fell 3-1 to No. 24-ranked Rio Grande (Ohio) before defeating Kentucky Christian 10-2 in six innings.

The Blue Raiders scored their lone run against Rio Grande without the benefit of a hit in the sixth inning. Lindsey Wilson loaded the bases on three walks before a fielder's choice allowed the run to score.

In total, the Blue Raiders managed only two hits against the RedStorm with both coming in the bottom of the fifth.

Casey Bryan tossed a complete game for Lindsey Wilson and allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk and struck out eight.

The offense found its footing in game two against Kentucky Christian - recording 17 hits and scoring in all but one inning.

Six Blue Raiders tallied multiple hits, including three-hit efforts by Madison Bryant, Amber Foukes and Cassie Kooker.

Foukes also shared the game high with three runs batted in. The sophomore from Louisville, Kentucky leads the team with 16 RBIs this season.

Pikeville (6-10) dropped both games of a home doubleheader to Northwestern Ohio last Friday and has lost its last four contests.

Northwestern Ohio out-hit the Bears 31-9 across the two games, including 17-3 in the nightcap. Pikeville managed just one extra-base hit in the doubleheader - a double by Alexandra Quill in game two.

Jillian Bohnert powers the Bears offense, leading the team in home runs (four) and runs batted in (14) while batting .483.

Lindsey Wilson is 28-2 in its last 30 games against Pikeville and holds a 14-game winning streak dating back to 2013.

The Blue Raiders went 25-3 in MSC play last season, finishing second in the conference behind Campbellsville (KY). Lindsey Wilson last won the conference regular season crown in 2014, head coach David Dews' first season, when it posted a 29-5 record in MSC games.
