COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College athletics director Willis Pooler has been selected the 2016-17 NAIA/Other Four-Year Institutions Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) officials announced on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

According to NACDA, the Under Armour ADOY Award is essential because it highlights the efforts of athletics directors at all levels for their commitment and positive contributions to student-athletes, campuses and their surrounding communities.

"I want to thank Under Armour and NACDA for recognizing me for this award," Pooler said. "It is a reflection of the excellence of our talented, hardworking student-athletes, coaches and staff.

"I am blessed to work for an institution that values the role of intercollegiate athletics in helping to educate and shape the lives of our students."

Pooler led the Lindsey Wilson athletic department to the most successful season in school history in 2015-16. Lindsey Wilson captured the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup as the nation's top NAIA athletic program -- collecting more points than any other institution in the nationwide competition. It marks the fourth-straight season Lindsey Wilson has finished in the top three of the final standings.

He also led Lindsey Wilson to a fifth-straight Mid-South Conference President's Cup in 2015-16 -- the conference's all-sports trophy. The Cup win is the sixth for Lindsey Wilson since joining the MSC.

"What a tremendous honor for Lindsey Wilson College and our entire athletic program for Willis Pooler to be recognized as the outstanding college athletic director by NACDA," Lindsey Wilson President Dr. William T. Luckey, Jr. said. "It is because of his commitment to the more than 700 student-athletes, his focus on academics, their service to this community and insisting on high character in his coaches and from our students.

"We clearly are winning on the fields and in the arenas, but more importantly, through his leadership and example we are preparing our students to be successful in their careers, marriages, relationships and communities." Luckey added. "The NACDA could not have chosen a more deserving representative or a better human being for this honor than Willis Pooler."

Already in the 2016-17 academic year, Lindsey Wilson has captured 11 MSC regular season or postseason conference championships.

During his time as athletic director, 107 teams have earned the distinction of being named NAIA Scholar Teams -- including a school-record 16 teams during the 2013-14 academic year. During his 13 previous years of service as athletic director, Lindsey Wilson has averaged more than 18 NAIA Scholar-Athletes per year and over 100 All Academic Mid-South Conference honorees each of the previous three academic years.

Among the criteria were service as an athletics director for a minimum of five academic years; demonstration of commitment to higher education and student-athletes; continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishments.

Four athletics directors from each level -- NAIA, NCAA and junior college -- receive the distinction. Pooler shares the honor with Reinhardt's (Ga.) Bill Popp, Southeastern's (Fla.) Drew Watson and Ottawa's (Kan.) Arabie Conner.

"The Athletics Director of the Year Award honors those men and women who are visionary leaders in college athletics," said Nick Carparelli, Under Armour senior director of college sports in the NACDA press release. "Under Armour is proud to partner with NACDA to facilitate this recognition for the top athletics directors across all divisions."

Pooler will be presented with the award at NACDA's 52nd Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida in June during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon.
