Adair Co. Fiscal Court 14 Feb 2017 - Album and links

The Tuesday evening session of Adair Fiscal Court was opening with some long awaited and good news about the recovery of Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens, who recently had surgery in Louisville, from Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey (District 5), who presided.



He said that he had talked with Judge Stephens and reported that he looks great, and could be back very soon. He relayed Judge Stephens' thanks for prayers and concerns from the people of Adair County. Mr. Coffey said that Judge Stephens indicated he will be back in office, soon.

In the meantime, Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener is directing the day-to-day operation of the office, and Magistrate Coffey will serve as presiding officer at meetings.

Adair Fiscal Court, 14 Feb 2017: Sheriff Moss bearing $67,916 check

Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss was in good spirits as he entered the hall for the February 14, 2017 session of Adair County Fiscal Court. He was bearing a check for $67,916 and change, returning excess fees collected by his office. The money will augment the Adair County General Fund. The court will address his request that the money be earmarked for new cruisers for the Sheriff's Department. - EW

Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer conferred with Wendy Burt on solving the litter problem in Adair County. Greer brightened the budget outlook for the county, presenting Adair County Treasurer Melinda Quinn with a check for $250,000 for excess fees generated by her office in 2016 - and told the court that approximately $30,000 is held reserve pending final audits of the previous year. Clerk Greer, former CJE Ann Melton (newly named editor of the - Adair Progress, and perhaps the greatest county solid waste coordinator ever, A.L. Sinclair - were singled out as examples of the kind of leadership which once made Adair County the envy of the state for clean roadsides, by cleanup activist Vicky Pike. - EW

Adair County Treasurer Melinda Quinn reported cash-on-hand on January 31, 2017, of $1,971,441.90 - even before receiving checks for excess fees from the Adair County Sheriff's Department of over $67,000 and from Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer of $250,000. The court pre-approved budget transfers which may be needed in February. - EW
