New chair, vice chair, secretary to the board elected. Meeting dates approved

The Adair County Board of Education elected Lisa Burton (Division 4), as Chairperson for the coming year, last night, Thursday, January 19, 2017.

It was the first meeting of the year and the first with two new board members, Daniel Adams (Div 2), and Jonathan Gaskins (Div 4)

Terry Harvey (1), was elected as as vice chairperson.



The meeting was called to order by the Interim Superintendent, Dr. Pam Stephens, who conducted the election of the chair, who presided for the rest of the meeting

Becky Bailey, Administrative Assistant in the Superintendent's Office, was elected Secretary to the board.

Incumbent board members Mike Harris (Div 5), the longest serving member of the board, was also present, in addition to others named above, as was incumbent Student Board Member, Lauren McQuaide.

The board voted to continue regular 3rd Thursday at 6pmCT sessions.

Attorney Coleman Hurt of the law firm of Hoover & Hurt, Jamestown, KY was present, and their contract through June 30, 2017, was acknowledged. No action was needed, Dr. Stephens said, but acknowledgement was required at this meeting by law. - Ed Waggener

Daniel Adams (Div 2), Gradyville, KY, center, represented his division for the first time last night, Thursday, January 19, 2017. He is one of two new members on the board. At left is the dean of the board, Mike Harris (Div 5), who has the longest tenure of all. At right, is Lauren McQuaide, now in her third one-year term as student - non voting but participating - board member. The meeting, in no small part because of Adams, was very collegial.- EW

Jonathan Gaskins (Div 4) listened intently to a presentation by Alma Rich, Principal of Adair County Middle School, who noted, that the new board member is the first former student of hers to be elected to the school board.
