The long awaited sewer project at Green River Commerce Park entered the construction phase today, Thursday, January 05, 2016.

The pipe is being installed by Columbia/Adair County Utilities District. Lift stations in the park and the natural gas pipeline crossing were bid and awarded to the low bidder, Cumberland Pipeline, Russell Springs, KY, which is already working on site.

CAUD General Manager Lenny Stone said that only one detail is yet to be finalized with the owners of the pipeline for the pipeline crossing to be complete, but that should come in the next few days.

Work financed locally, cost less locally than with grant funding

The work is being financed by four group, each paying close to equal shares of approximately $29,500, each.

The underwriters are as follows:
  • Columbia/Adair Economic Development Authority
  • Adair Fiscal Court
  • The City of Columbia
  • Rob Wilkerson, owner of the anchor industry in the park
Mayor Curtis Hardwick said that a special fund will be set up for the funds. Three checks for $29,000 "and change," have already been received, and the check from the Adair Fiscal Court is expected shortly.

CAUD is laying the lines as its contribution to the project.

Cumberland Pipeline of Russell Springs is installing the lift stations and will build the crossing under the natural gas transmission lines.

CAUD general manager Lenny Stone said that with good weather, the project could be complete in as little as two-four weeks.

The City of Columbia is the fiscal agent for the project.

Monarch Engineering of Lawrenceburg is the Engineering Firm.
