Jon Halsey: Not so enamored with new cell phone tax

'A simplified 3 level Federal, State and Local tax system to fund all necessary Government Services seems to be beyond the ken of those who opt to work in the public sector.' Jon Halsey comments on latest Frankfort tax, this one on pre-paid telephone

By Jon Halsey

I have never underestimated the ability of the political class to dip deep and often into the pockets of the citizenry, nor their ability to cloak it in glowing terms describing the wonders that will accrue from their appropriation.

The 911 service is one of the great benefits of our ever expanding technology but I can't help but wonder why all of these various Government services can't be funded from a single tax rather than all of these stealth pickings. The same for the multiple taxing districts.

A simplified 3 level Federal, State and Local tax system to fund all necessary Government Services seems to be beyond the ken of those who opt to work in the public sector. If this deficit in thinking is a genetic abnormality in these functionaries or the failure of our education system to instill "common sense" has always been a puzzlement to me.
