Shirley Coffey Holt, 83, Adair Co., KY (1933-2016)

She was a member of an outstanding Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Holland & Zelma Morrison Coffey and the widow of Orvil Holt. She leaves six direct living descendants. She had professed her faith at a young age and was a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Lindsey Wilson College and the University of Louisville. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 38 years in Jefferson and Adair Counties. After retirement she subbed for many years at John Adair Intermediate School. She was a member of the Club 92 Homemakers for 30+ years. She loved reading and was a member of the Book Club at the Adair County Public Library.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY withBro. Bill Wethington and Bro. Terry White the officiating clergy. Interment in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. The family requests visiting after 4:30pmCT, on Sunday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Shirley Coffey Holt, 83, Adair Co., KY (1933-2016)


She was born October 1, 1933 in Montpelier, KY the daughter of the late Holland and Zelma Morrison Coffey. She died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the age of 83 years, two months, and 14 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orvil Holt on October 22, 2005, and by three brothers in law, Lowell Smith, Arvis Holt, Kenneth Holt and a sister in law Nioma Kean

She is survived by:
  • One daughter: Laura Beth Murrell, and husband Greg of Columbia, KY

  • Three granddaughters: Emily Cross (Abe) of Glensfork, KY; Olivia Sanders (Tyler) of Knoxville, TN; and Anna Murrell of Columbia, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Delaney Rose Cross and Deacon Holt Cross

  • Two sisters: Ina Smith of Louisville, KY and Guinda Sue Miller (Bobby) of Gahanna, Ohio

  • Four brothers: Joe Norman Coffey and wife Ada, Earl Coffey and wife Marilyn of Montpelier, KY; Carl Coffey and wife June of Glasgow, KY; Gene Coffey and wife: Lillie of Louisville, KY

  • And numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends

  • Her caretakers: Debbie Bryant and Melinda Knight
She had professed her faith at a young age and was a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
