Mark Fudge: Remembering Jimmy Wentworth

He had a lasting impact on Adair County High School Basketball program
About: Dr. James H. Wentworth, Taylor Co., KY (1937-2016)

By Mark Fudge

During the 2006-07 basketball season I invited Coach Jimmy Wentworth to come to one of our team practices and tell me what he observed. Little did I know that it would start a relationship with he and our basketball team(s) that would last 7 1/2 years. From that time until the end of the 2014 season coach Wentworth drove from Campbellsville to Columbia every day during basketball season and volunteered his services for our basketball program.

Coach Wentworth made a huge impact on everyone in our program including players, coaches, parents, and fans. He was a wealth of knowledge on the game of basketball but more importantly he was a man of great character and wisdom. Even though they were generations apart by age our players truly loved Coach Wentworth and listened intently to what he had to say regardless if it was related to basketball or life situations. He was also a great role model and mentor for our coaching staff.

I always thought of Coach Wentworth as a larger than life figure or a living legend which he really was. We will certainly miss Coach Wentworth and our prayers go out to Debbie and Chris and family.

Sincerely,

Mark Fudge
