She was the matriarch of a distinguished Metcalfe County family. She was a member of the Edmonton Baptist Church and was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College. She taught in a one room school in Metcalfe County, KY, and was employed by ASCS office for many years

Hazel N. Newton age 96 of Edmonton passed away Sunday, December 4 2016 at Metcalfe County Health Care in Edmonton, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9amCT, until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.


Hazel N. Newton, 96, Metcalfe County, KY (1920-2016)


She was the daughter of the late Cecil and Nevada Cassady Nunn. She was born November 17, 1920. She died Sunday, December 4, 2016, in Edmonton, Metcalfe County, KY, at the age of 96 years, 17 days.

She was a member of the Edmonton Baptist Church. Hazel was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and taught in a one room school in Metcalfe County and employed by ASCS office for many years.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her daughter-in-law: Martha Blevins of Edmonton, KY

  • Three grandchildren: David Garmon of Lawrenceburg, KY; John Forbes Blevins and wife Meg of New Orleans, LA; and J.P. Blevins of Wilmington, NC

  • Four great grandchildren: John Paul, Marlie, Anne Porter and Ben
Besides her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her son John Paul Blevins; her husband, Jim Newton, and a brother Paul Nunn.
