P & Z Commission approves site development for major projects

Franklin Mall in Holladay Place and Lindsey Wilson College/VFW 6097 building site development both unanimously approved

Two major Columbia developments received approval tonight, Thursday, November 10, 2016, at a Special Called Meeting which started at 6:15pmCT, in the Council Meeting Room, City Hall, with P & Z Chair Joe Flowers presiding and Jada Coomer recording the proceedings. They are:


  1. The new Lindsey Wilson College/VFW Post 6097 which will be located at 500 Greenhills Drive, Columbia, KY. The vote was 4-0, on a motion by Commissioner George Kolbenschlag and a second by Roy Rademacher, with Commissioners Gale Rogers and Sue Stivers affirming in the unanimous voice vote.
  2. The Franklin Mall which will be located on Dohoney Trace, Holladay Place, was given approval of its site development plan after the P & Z received approval of the site plan and drainage plans. The plan received unanimous voice vote approval on a motion by Commissioner Sue Stivers with a second by Gale Rogers, with George Kolbenschlag and Roy Rademacher joining in the affirmative.
Present for the hearing on behalf of the builders of the VFW Post were VFW Quartermaster Ron Holt and Lindsey Wilson Plant Operations Director Mike Newton. Present for the Franklin Mall was Eddie Franklin.

The actions by the P & Z were the final steps necessary prior to construction for both projects, Chairman Flowers said. City Council approval is not needed.

Lindsey Wilson College New Building for VFW Post 6097

The City of Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission, in a Special Called meeting tonight, Thursday, November 10, 2016, approved the Site Development Plan for the new VFW Post 6097 which will be located at 500 Greenhills Drive, Columbia, KY. The vote was 4-0, on a motion by Commissioner George Kolbenschlag and a second by Roy Rademacher, with Commissioners Gale Rogers and Sue Stivers affirming in the unanimous voice vote. City Planning & Zoning gives OK to two major projects plans

After a brief minutes-approving Regular Session at 6pmCT, the Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission, with Chairman Joe Flowers, center, presiding and Jada Coomer, P&Z Secretary, presiding reviewed and approved site development plans for two major projects. First they unanimously approved plans for the Lindsey Wilson/VFW Post 6097 building at 500 Greenhills Drive, and then reviewed and approved site plans for the Franklin Mall on Dohoney Trace at Holladay Place. Both sets of plans had been scrutinized by City Engineer Greg Eastham, who approved the drainage plans for both projects. Commissioners present above, are, left, front to back, Gale Rogers and Sue Stivers, and right, Roy Rademacher and George Kolbenschlag. Both project can now proceed, Chair Flowers said. - Ed Waggener
