Numerous LWC athletes earn MSC honors

Lindsey Wilson College students on both men's and women's teams receive MSC "Athlete of the Week" honors for Swimming, Football, Wrestling and Soccer.


Macdonald named MSC Women's Swimmer of the Week

For the second time this season, Jessica Macdonald is the Mid-South Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

In four events at a tri-dual against Campbellsville (Ky.) and Union (Ky.), the freshman from Durban, South Africa won three individual events and a relay event, while posting a national "A" cut in each event.

She won the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:13.38 and captured the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:01.21.

Macdonald's final individual event was the 200-meter individual medley, where she finished in 2:31.63. In the 200-meter freestyle relay, she recorded a time of 1:58.30.

Lindsey Wilson won the both duals at the event, 140-113 over Campbellsville and 154-90 against Union.

Macdonald earns her second swimmer of the week honor this season and of her career.

Paetzold receives MSC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades

Clemens Paetzold is the Mid-South Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

The sophomore from Ratzeburg, Germany recorded four victories and four national "A" standards in each event he competed in at a tri-dual against Campbellsville (Ky.) and Union (Ky.).

In his two individual events, he recorded a time of 1:03.92 in the 100-meter backstroke, while finishing the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:16.70.

As a part of the 200-meter medley relay, Patzold helped the Blue Raiders finish with a time of 1:52.43. Rounding out the meet, Lindsey Wilson won the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.05.

The Blue Raiders picked up a pair of victories against Campbellsville, 170-74, and Union, 164-71.

Patzold earns his first swimmer of the week honor this season and fourth of his career.

Walker voted as MSC Wrestler of the Week

Matt Walker is the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, the conference office released on Monday.

The senior from Hilliard, Ohio won the 184-pound bracket at the Patriot Open on Saturday hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.).

Walker, who ranks No. 2 in the NAIA Poll at 174 pounds, open his tournament with three-consecutive pins to earn a spot in the semifinals. He then edged out Indiana Tech's Dillon Francisco (ranked 12th at 184 pounds) in a 2-1 decision to secure a spot in the title match.

Walker won the title at 184 pounds with a 12-6 decision over Jake Johnson - who was wrestling unattached.

Walker earns his first weekly honor of the season and second of his career.

Sutton picks up MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors

Charles Sutton is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

The junior from Michigan City, Indiana, averaged 25.5 points per game and shot 69.0 percent from the floor in a pair of No. 20 Lindsey Wilson victories last week.

He recorded a double-double with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the 89-74 road victory over Midway (Ky.). Sutton made 11-of-15 attempts from the floor and hit 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

He then poured in 20 points and nine rebounds with five assists in the Blue Raiders' victory over Ohio State-Mansfield on Sunday.

Lindsey Wilson has started the season 4-0.

Sutton earns his first player of the week honor of the season and second of his career.

Brackins and Sublett earn MSC West Football Player of the Week honors

Tony Brackins is the Mid-South Conference West Division Football Defensive Player of the Week and teammate Jalen Sublett is the MSC West Offensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Brackins racked up a team-high 15 tackles in Lindsey Wilson's 52-38 win over No. 23-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) on Saturday. He also intercepted one pass and blocked an extra point attempt.

The junior defensive back helped the Blue Raiders shut out the Wildcats in the fourth quarter.

Sublett ran his way to the record books with a program-record 228 rushing yards in the win on Saturday, the first Blue Raider to ever eclipse 200 yards in a single game. The senior scored three times on the ground.

The duo helped Lindsey Wilson wrap up the regular season with a 10-1 record and 4-1 mark in the MSC West.

Both Brackins and Sublett earn their first career conference weekly honor.

Ploeg repeats as MSC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

For the second week in a row, Yvonne Ploeg is the Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The sophomore forward netted a hat trick and one assist in her lone outing last week, Lindsey Wilson's 7-1 victory over Pikeville (Ky.) in the MSC Tournament Quarterfinals.

She earned seven total points while helping No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson improve to 13-3-0 on the year.

Ploeg earns her second weekly honor of the season and fifth of her career.
