LWC Singers, Concert Choir will present Election Eve Concert

"We the People, An Election Eve Concert," will be presented at 7pmCT, Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.

By Gerald Chaffin

"We the People: An Election Eve Concert," a Lindsey Wilson College choral program tradition, is programmed every four years on the eve of presidential elections. Both the Lindsey Wilson College Singers and the Concert Choir take separate roles in performing as well as merging together for the finale of the evening.

The concert will feature a panoramic view of American music, including numerous genres such as the songs of Stephen Foster, African-American spirituals, and early-American hymn-tunes.

In the concert's finale, Lindsey Wilson College’s drama professor, Robert Brock, portrays Billy Herndon, Abraham Lincoln's law partner. This portion of the concert is titled Words of Lincoln which musically sets five of Lincoln's most famous speeches:
  1. Train Station speech in Springfield, IL as he left to assume the presidency, February 11, 1861
  2. The First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1861
  3. The Emancipation Proclamation, January 1, 1863
  4. The Gettysburg Address, November 19, 1863
  5. The Second Inaugural Address, March 4, 1865
"We the People, An Election Eve Concert," will be presented at 7pmCT, Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Columbia United Methodist Church, 202 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.
