Lindsey Wilson will honor its seniors as part of LWC Women's Soccer Senior Night following the game. - Chris Wells By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director PIKEVILLE, KY - (Thu 27 Oct 2016) The fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team clinched at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular-season title today with a 5-0 win over host Pikeville (KY) at Bob Amos Field. With today's win and based on holding the tie-breaker over Cumberland (TN) and Georgetown (KY) - the two teams that are currently tied for second place - the Blue Raiders secured the top seed in next week's conference tournament. Lindsey Wilson closes out the regular season on Saturday night with Shawnee State (Ohio) for a chance to go unbeaten in the conference and win the outright regular-season title. Yvonne Ploeg and Lyana Perez each scored twice today to help the Blue Raiders improve to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the MSC. Perez opened the scoring in the 13th minute, slotting a loose ball past Pikeville goalkeeper Moreka Buchanan for the 1-0 lead. Ploeg doubled the lead less than four minutes later as she scored on a penalty kick following a Pikeville (7-11, 0-7 in the MSC) foul in the box. Perez found the back of the net for the second time in the game and sixth time this season in the 18th minute for a 3-0 lead. She finished the game with nine of the Blue Raiders' 19 shots. She hit the target six times en route to scoring the two goals. Annika Koemm got into the scoring act in the 20th minute with her 10th goal of the season. Koemm blasted in the goal off a Ploeg cross to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-0 lead. Ploeg added her second goal of the game in the 28th minute for the 5-0 lead. The goal is Ploeg's sixth of the season. Lindsey Wilson took the five-goal lead into the half and cruised to the win to earn its season-high ninth consecutive victory. Lindsey Wilson finished the game with a 19-6 shots advantage. Johanna Henriksson and Jovana Ivanovic each played a half in goal for the Blue Raiders to combine for the seventh shutout of the season. - Chris Wells This story was posted on 2016-10-28 05:59:18
