LWC Men's Swimming falls to West Virginia Tech

By Charlie Balcom

The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team suffered a 124-81 dual meet setback to West Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Holloway Center Natatorium.

Iker Larzabal and Clemens Paetzold were the lone Blue Raiders to win events on the day, each capturing a pair of victories in individual events.

Larzabal secured the first win on the day in the 200-yard freestyle. He touched the wall in one minute and 49.03 seconds, edging out the second-place finisher by 0.28 seconds. His time was good enough for a national "B" standard. He would later add a victory in the 100-yard freestyle event, recording another "B" cut with a time of 48.82, topping the field of six swimmers.

Paetzold grabbed his first win of the afternoon in the 200-yard individual medley. His winning "B" cut time of 2:02.03 was over six seconds faster than second place, teammate Michael Peck. Paetzold then took the top time in the 100-yard backstroke, winning with an "A" cut time of 54.82 seconds out of the field of seven competitors.

Lindsey Wilson added six second-place finishes out of the 11 events on the day.

Both the 400-yard medley relay team of Paetzold, Jonas Mueller, Travis Durocher and Larzabal and the 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Peck, Mark Richard, Jose Prado de Lima and Zachary Patzer earned second place in their respective events with national "A" standards.

Prado de Lima added an individual second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Prado de Lima took second in the 100-yard butterfly. Peck secured a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle and Mueller finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning a national "B" cut with his time of 1:00.68.

Next up for Lindsey Wilson is the first road dual of the season as the Blue Raiders take on Asbury (Ky.) on Oct. 22.
