Parks & Rec positions open for chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer By Linda Waggener The Columbia/Adair Parks and Recreation Board held its monthly meeting October 10, 2016 at the 911 Center conference room in Columbia with all leadership offices open to be filled -- board chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer. Maintenance, physical plant and budget items were discussed. Extensive cleaning, lighting and the heat and air installation are all ongoing. Goals for future include kitchen basics, grant applications, improved communications, playground equipment and blacktop sealing. Health Educator Jelaine Harlow brought discussion of grants available, especially in the area of health improvement, that may be obtained for the park in future. She said she is happy to write the grants but needs help with research and documentation. It was decided that all members of the group will make efforts to support her work and also to connect with the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, Fiscal Court and City Council to be included in notices that come to the attention of Adair County of possible grants. New rates for rental of the Blair Center are $25 per hour with a two hour minimum; a full day (12 hours) $150. There's a $100 deposit for all rentals, refundable upon inspection of the state of the rented area after the event. Present were former Parks and Recreation Board chair, now director Lisa Handy, board members Debbie Yates, Linda Waggener, Cynthia Rowe and Alicia Bosela. Also present were Barbara Shepherd who will become a board member with approval by the Columbia City Council, and Jelaine Harlow who will become a board member with approval by the Fiscal court. Absent were board members Damon Hicks, Charles Grimsley and also Billy Dean Coffey who has given his verbal resignation notice. This story was posted on 2016-10-13 11:36:07
