Seniors participate in college application day Adair County joins state, nation in encouraging higher education By Wes Feese Media Relations, Adair County Schools Adair County High School seniors packed the school's library Tuesday morning, filling out college applications, applying for scholarships, and learning about the many higher-learning prospects available to them. This week is Kentucky's College Application Week, the state's answer to a nationwide call to provide opportunities for college to high school graduates. The program is sponsored by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). "The goal is to jumpstart their college careers by helping students apply to colleges, whether it's four-year or two-year schools, public or private," says KHEAA Outreach Counselor Audrey Price, who was on hand to assist students Tuesday. Students were encouraged to apply to at least one college, but are free to apply to as many as they want. After they completed the application process, they could move on to scholarship applications. "We are here to help them with every phase of the process, not just the initial application," Price says. "Whatever they need, I'll try to help with." ACHS counselor Ann Young says the college application initiative falls directly in line with the district's focus on college and career readiness. "We want every student to complete or at least begin the application process today," Young says. "Our expectation here is to send our senior class--every student--out of here prepared for the next step in their life, whether it's college or a career. This is part of that preparation." In addition to Price, representatives from several colleges--including Campbellsville University, Lindsey Wilson College, Somerset Community College, and Western Kentucky University--were set up in the library to assist students and provide information about their institutions' offerings and opportunities.
