LWC Volleyball takes two-day swing through MSC

By Matt Wurzburger

No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball begins a two-day Mid-South Conference road swing when they face Cumberlands (Ky.) on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders (13-1, 4-1 MSC) then face Pikeville (Ky.) on Wednesday night.

Lindsey Wilson defeated Shawnee State (Ohio) on Sept. 24. The Blue Raiders held the Bears to a .000 attacking percentage in the straight-sets victory.

Makenzie Montano recorded 24 assists against Shawnee State. She now has 3,144 career assists and is 35 shy of passing Sarah Kline for the fourth-most in Lindsey Wilson program history.

Cumberlands (12-5, 4-2 MSC) is coming off a five-set loss at Campbellsville (Ky.) The Patriots took the first two sets before Campbellsville rallied off victories in the final three sets to take the match.

Jennifer Philpot posted a double-double with 21 kills and 12 digs against Campbellsville. She is 26th in the NAIA with 3.75 kills per game. Lynsey Short recorded 53 assists on the night.

Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands split their season series last year with the victory going to the home team both times. The Blue Raiders avenged a five-set loss on the road with a straight-sets victory at Biggers Sports Center in which Lindsey Wilson attacked at a .517 clip and limited the Patriots to a .107 attacking percentage.

Pikeville (12-7, 1-3 MSC) fell in three sets to Campbellsville on Sept. 22. Sydney Hall collected her 1,000th-career kill against the Patriots. The senior leads all Bears with 159 kills on the season and is attacking at a .294 mark.

Lindsey Wilson holds a 19-match winning streak against Pikeville with the last defeat coming on Sept. 7, 2005. The Blue Raiders took both matches from the Bears in straight sets in 2015.

Live stats will be available for both matches. Cumberlands and Pikeville will be providing live video. Lindsey Wilson's match against Cumberlands begins at 6pmCT on Sept. 27 from Williamsburg, Ky. The Blue Raiders face Pikeville at 6pmCT on Sept. 28.
