College Football: Campbellsville University 48. Bluefield (VA) 34 Career-highs lead Campbellsville University football over Bluefield College (VA) at Mitchell Mitchell Stadium, 1780 Stadium Drive, Bluefield, WV, with 500 in attendance Next - Campbellsville Fighting Tiger Football hosts Faulkner University, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11amCT/12pmNoonET, at Finley Stadium, 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY. By Jordan Alves, sports information director BLUEFIELD, WV - The Fighting Tigers held Bluefield College (VA) to only seven points in the second half and scored 27 themselves to pick up their first win of the season, 48-34. Campbellsville (1-3) gained 549 yards of offense compared to 277 for Bluefield (0-5) and the 48 points is the most scored in a contest this season. Zerric Willis had a career day, finishing with 132 receiving yards on six catches and 53 yards on two rushes. Every time Willis touched the ball today, the Fighting Tigers picked up first downs. Hunter Brown had his best game of the season statistically as well, throwing for a career-high 391 yards, four touchdowns and rushing for another two. The four passing TD's were spread across the receiving core, as Tyus Alcorn finished with two, while Keanu Young had one and Jordan Duff had his first-career TD catch. After a shoot-em-up first half and Bluefield leading 27-21, coach Perry Thomas and his staff made adjustments that proved to be vital on the defensive side of the ball. CU received the opening kickoff of the second half and went right down the field scoring on nine-plays in 2:14 to take a 28-27 lead - a lead it would never surrender. The Fighting Tigers and Rams then traded a pair of possessions before CU scored on two consecutive drives, spanning between the third and fourth quarters, to push its lead to 42-27. Campbellsville looked like it would be able to hold the Rams scoreless in the second half but Bluefield took advantage of a pass interference call on 4th and 14 with just over four minutes to go in the game to set up its final score - a 14-yard rush by Kenavus Jones. CU would dash the hopes of a Bluefield rally just 55 seconds later. Willis sparked CU with a 50-yard dash on the Fighting Tigers' first play, setting up a Wade Holtsclaw 5-yd touchdown. Holtsclaw led CU with 57 yards and the lone score, while Chantz Goodman finished with 46 yards on 10 rushed. Outside of the pass interference call on fourth down leading to Bluefield's final score, Campbellsville's defense was stellar in the second half. CU recorded a season-high six sacks - a pair of those from Elmer Barron. Marcus McCants and Khalil Baker each had one sack, while Baker led the team along with Justin Manning with 10 tackles. Sylan-Drake Mayes finished with 1.5 sacks and Dillon Day was credited with a half sack for CU's six. Two weeks ago, Campbellsville was called for 18 penalties and almost 200 yards but today the Tigers played sound football. Outside of the pass interference call mentioned above and unsportsmanlike penalty in the first half that led to a pair of Bluefield scores, the Tigers had only five flags for 48 yards. Bluefield was led by Ashten Dixon's 102 yards through the air and one TD. Alex Martin led the Rams on the ground with 15 rushes for 102 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
