COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College's Chris Wells has been named the 2016 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Sports Information Director of the Year, NAIA officials announced on Thursday.

Wells was selected from a pool of sports information directors that earned their conference award during the 2015-16 academic year. The national award is Wells' first.

The announcement comes as part of the NAIA's National Awards Day.

Wells is currently in his 16th as the Lindsey Wilson's sports information director. He also has served as the Mid-South Conference communications director since 2008. During the 2016 NAIA-SIDA Convention, Wells was elected to serve as Second Vice President on the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors.

"I am extremely proud of Chris and the work he does on behalf of the athletics department," Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. "This recognition is well deserved. He is the consummate professional who cares deeply about Lindsey Wilson College, our student-athletes and our mission. We are blessed to have him on our team."

Wells has led Lindsey Wilson's communication efforts for four men's soccer and four women's soccer NAIA national championships. He helped usher in three new athletic programs, leading the promotion and media relations for football, swimming and wrestling in 2009.

Wells also serves as the voice of Blue Raider athletics by providing radio, television and web casts play-by-play for football, basketball and several of the college's Olympic sports.

Wells has been voted by his peers as the Bill Sergent MSC Sports Information Director Award nine times and received the 2015 NAIA Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award -- a lifetime achievement award presented annually to those that make outstanding contributions to the profession.

"I am constantly amazed by Chris' work ethic and professionalism, which are second to none," Mid-South Conference Commissioner Eric Ward said. "Over the past three years, I have grown to respect and rely on Chris' thoughtful and analytical problem solving, and he consistently displays strong leadership in working with our conference SIDs to create opportunities for bigger and better coverage of our student-athletes and coaches."

During his time at Lindsey Wilson, Wells has been statistical coordinator for the 2002 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship and the media coordinator for numerous NAIA Opening Round Tournament sites on Lindsey Wilson's campus.

The Lindsey Wilson Sports Information Department earned a trio of NAIA-SIDA Publications Awards in 2015-16. Lindsey Wilson won the contest for the best single-sport poster for the department's combined effort with the LWC Public Relations office on the project of the Blue Raider football 2015 season poster. Lindsey Wilson added a fifth-place finish in the category of best single-sport schedule card for football while the Lindsey Wilson athletics twitter account finished with the sixth-most new followers during the 2015-16 academic year.

Wells will be presented with the award in April at the Awards Luncheon during the NAIA National Convention in San Diego, California.
