Rain washes out Lindsey Wilson Men's Golf final round

Lind claims medalist honors at Coastal Georgia Invite

By Chris Wells

St Simons Island, GA - Heavy rains washed out today's final round of the Coastal Georgia Invite at the Sea Island Golf Club Retreat Course.

With today's cancelation, the tournament reverts back to the final round completed -- yesterday's second round -- for the final official results. Lindsey Wilson finished fourth overall while Rasmus Lind earned the individual title in his first collegiate event.

After playing a portion of the opening nine holes, play was suspended at 9:20 a.m. CT due to the first band of inclement weather to hit the area. Just as play was set to resume -- following a nearly 90-minute delay -- heavy rains appeared again making the course unplayable. With an afternoon forecast of more showers, the final round was ultimately canceled.

Lind concluded his 36 holes with a 7-under par 137 (70-67) over Monday's 36 holes. He captures the individual title by one stroke over South Carolina Beaufort's Riley Schank.

Lind -- who leads the five-man all-tournament team -- broke the tournament's 36-hole record with his 137. He becomes the 28th Blue Raider all time to win an individual tournament title while posting the third best finish in the program's history for a 36-hole event.

Lindsey Wilson finished fourth in the 16-team tournament. The Blue Raiders carded a team-total 585 (292-293) over the two rounds played on Monday. Host Coastal Georgia won the event with a 578 (297-291) followed by Keiser's (Fla.) 583 (294-289) and Point's (Ga.) 583 (298-285).

Alex Durham finished tied for 13th with a 3-over par 145 (70-75) -- which included an opening-round 2-under par 70 -- in the 93-man field. Ryan Nowe ended tied for 25th with a two-round total of 148 (74-74). Federico Navarro's 155 (78-77) was good enough for a tie for 58th while Frederik Willer's 162 (80-82) ended tied for 82nd.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Sept. 19-20 at the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament hosted at the Windtree Golf Course in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.
