International Student Program holds host parent orientation

By Sabine Eastham

And they are off ... LWC/International Student Programs welcomed a total of 109 students (45 new and 64 returning students) from 39 out of 250 countries in the world. This is 15.6% out of all countries in the world - gathered right here at LWC, in our wonderful town of Columbia, KY!

We had our first new host parent orientation on August 8, 2016 were host parents gathered from as far away as Glasgow, Center, and Lebanon, KY. They had an opportunity to chat with established host parents, discussed expectations and fears and what it means to be a host parent.

Host families do not house the students. It usually involved having them to your house a few times a year for a meal or a special event and checking in on them periodically to make sure they are adjusting to American life.)

Host parents and host students had an opportunity to meet one another on August 12 during the annual picnic.

All enjoyed games for young and old, great food and wonderful company. Sabine Eastham, the Director of International Student Programs said, during her welcome speech, "International Students will have a great experience here at LWC, because all staff and faculty are committed to this, however," she added, "by being paired with host parents, their experience is being elevated from a great experience to an amazing one!"
