Adair football moves to 2-0 behind Lonnie Grant's 4 TDs Adair County defeats Taylor County at Campbellsville Next:Adair County High School Football hosts LaRue County High School, at 7pmCT, Friday, September 2, 2016, at Indian Stadium, 623 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Wes Feese Media Relations, Adair County Schools Adair County moved to 2-0 on the young season Friday night by following last week's 38-28 victory at Taylor County with a lopsided home win against Caverna. This one featured little drama, as the Tribe jumped out to a quick early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 53-6 win. "I really liked the intensity we came out with," says head coach Clay Stephens. "We were locked in and focused, and I thought we communicated a lot better than we did last week, both offensively and defensively." Senior Lonnie Grant was the star of the contest, as he racked up three rushing touchdowns and a 100-yard interception return for a score. Dylan Feese also found the end zone from the defensive side of the ball, returning a fumble recovery 69 yards for his second touchdown of the season. Chance Melton and Jaiden Taylor each added one rushing touchdown, and Melton completed five of his eight pass attempts for 116 yards and one TD, on a connection with Cameron Lasley. Several Indians made contributions on defense, led by James Owens seven tackles. Lasley and Justin Miller added five tackles apiece, and three linemen--Jacob Doss, Marcus Mathis, and Isaac Carter--finished with four tackles. Still, Stephens sees room for improvement from his defense. "We have to improve on tackling," Stephens says. "I liked that we were talking to each other more, but there's still a lot to work on." The Tribe is home again this Friday night, hosting 0-2 LaRue County. Kickoff is set for 7pmCT. Despite LaRue's winless record, Stephens says his team must come to play if they hope to remain unbeaten. "They're a tough team--lost a close one last week to Russell County," Stephens says. "They're physical up front and have some skill guys that can give us fits if we're not on our P's and Q's." This story was posted on 2016-08-29 13:54:50
