LWC Volleyball unbeaten after 2 more wins in LWC Invitational

With wins over Indiana Wesleyan and Asbury, Lindsey Wilson extends its home winning streak to a program-record 38 straight matches.

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson closed out the LWC Invitational with wins over Indiana Wesleyan and Asbury (KY) Saturday, at Biggers Sports Center.

The third-ranked Blue Raiders (9-0) finish the two-day event with a 4-0 record. Union (KY) also went 4-0 over the weekend to join LWC as the only unbeaten teams during the invitational.



With today's wins, Lindsey Wilson extends its home winning streak to a program-record 38 straight matches.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Indiana Wesleyan

Lindsey Wilson made quick work in its first match of the day, dismissing of No. 23-ranked Indiana Wesleyan 25-14, 25-15, 25-13.

The Blue Raiders limited the previously unbeaten Wildcats to a .028 team hitting percentage and into 22 attacking errors in the game. Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the match en route to winning its sixth straight three-set match.

Makenzie Montano turned in a double-double in the match and missed a triple-double by just two kills. She ended with 23 assists, 12 digs and eight kills in the win -- all team highs. Yeniffer Ramirez chipped in with seven kills while Madison Molitor and Eileen Acuna each added six.

The Blue Raiders scored nine of the first 12 points in the first set in a 25-14 win. Building on the fast start, Lindsey Wilson used a 9-1 spurt to take its biggest lead of the set at 18-6. Ramirez and Grace Blomstedt -- who finished with five kills -- each had two spikes during the run.

Lindsey Wilson once again started quickly in the second set -- notching 12 of the first 16 points. Indiana Wesleyan benefitted from three consecutive LWC hitting errors to pull within 13-8 only to have the Blue Raiders quickly take back control.

Leading 15-10, Molitor and Elly Burke combined for three kills in a five-point surge to take a 20-10 lead. After three straight points from Indiana Wesleyan, the Blue Raider block appeared and helped Lindsey Wilson to a string of four points and a 24-13 lead. Molitor punctuated the set with a kill for the 25-15 win.

Three Indiana Wesleyan errors helped the Blue Raiders to a 4-0 start in the third set. Lindsey Wilson recorded three four-point runs in the set en route to winning 25-13 to complete the sweep.

Lindsey Wilson finished the match out-hitting the Wildcats .274 to .028.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Asbury

Ramirez hit .800 in the opening set with nine kills in 10 swings to lead the Blue Raiders to a 25-15 set-one win. Lindsey Wilson overcame a sluggish start with a 13-4 run to seize control of the set. The Blue Raiders scored six of the final seven points -- three Ramirez kills and blocks by Ramirez and Carolynne Silva -- to close the set.

The Blue Raiders continued to strike the ball well in a 25-11 second-set win. After posting a team .400 hitting percentage in the first set, the Blue Raiders followed up with a .412 in the second frame.

Molitor posted five kills in the set while Ramirez added four.

Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the set and ultimately built its first double-digit lead at 18-8 on a Molitor kill. The Blue Raiders extended their lead to as many as 14 twice to take the two-set lead.

Lindsey Wilson committed more errors in the third set than the first two sets combined, but managed to come away with a 25-19 win.

The Blue Raiders led 13-9 and 20-10 before Asbury (0-6) produced its best run of the match. The Eagles climbed within four points (23-19) only to have Ramirez smash her match-high 16th kill to end the run. An Asbury attack error capped the match giving the Blue Raiders the sweep.

Lindsey Wilson closed with a .347 hitting percentage compared to Asbury's .120.

Montano finished with 37 assists and eight kills. Caitlyn Tino ended with a team-high 11 digs.
