COLUMBIA, KY - No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball opened the 2016 season with a pair of wins Friday, August 19, 2016 at the LWC Classic at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson (2-0) swept Indiana Southeast in its opener and closed the day with a four-set win over Bellevue (NE). The wins extend the Blue Raiders home winning streak to a program-record 34 straight matches.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Indiana Southeast

The Lindsey Wilson defense accumulated a pair of solo blocks and 16 block assists in a 25-13, 25-11, 25-15 win over Indiana Southeast. The Grenadiers (1-1) did not have a positive attacking percentage in any of the three sets en route to hitting -.051 for the match.

While the defense proved to be the catalyst, the Blue Raider offense had its moments in helping Lindsey Wilson win its season-opener for a sixth consecutive season.

Lindsey Wilson finished the match with a .275 attacking percentage, led by Yeniffer Ramirez's team-high 12 kills. Ramirez finished with a .318 hitting percentage while Carolynne Silva hit .667 with four kills in six swings.

Elly Burke provided seven kills in her Lindsey Wilson debut while newcomer Lauren Streets added six. Makenzie Montano narrowly missed a double-double, ending with a game-high 29 assist and nine digs.

Madison Molitor led the defense with both solo blocks and four block assists. Elly Burke and Grace Blomstedt also contributed four block assists in the match. Caitlyn Tino provided a team-best 23 digs to add to the defensive dominance.

Hanna Joly led the Grenadiers with eight kills.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Bellevue

Lindsey Wilson overcame a sluggish start to fight off a gritty Bellevue squad to win its nightcap 25-22, 21-25, 25-12, 25-16.

After hitting just .100 in the opening two sets, the Blue Raiders rebounded to post a .342 attacking percentage in the final two stanzas. Lindsey Wilson finished the match outhitting the Bruins .216 to .142.

Bellevue started strong, leading by as many as six points (11-5) in the opening frame.

Lindsey Wilson eventually escaped the set scoring the final five points thanks to a Blomstedt kill, a pair of Blue Raider blocks and two Bellevue errors for the 25-22 win.

The first-set escape proved to be important as the Bruins closed the second set with a 9-4 run to take the set 25-21 and even the match.

It was all Lindsey Wilson in the final two sets.

The Blue Raiders used a 16-3 run in the third set to win 25-12 and Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the fourth set en route to the 25-16 win.

Montano and Eileen Acuna each posted double-doubles in the win.

Montano distributed 38 assists while collecting 11 digs. Acuna added 11 kills and 17 digs for her first Lindsey Wilson double-double. Ramirez finished with a team-high 14 kills while Tino chipped in a match-high 19 digs.
