LWC women's soccer tops preseason Mid-South Conference poll

By Matt Wurzburger

The coaches of the Mid-South Conference tabbed Lindsey Wilson as the favorites to capture the 2016 regular season crown, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders received seven of eight first-place votes for a total of 49 voting points. Conference coaches are unable to vote for their own teams.

Lindsey Wilson topped the preseason poll in 2015 and won both regular season and tournament titles before falling in the national championship game to Spring Arbor (Mich.).

Campbellsville (Ky.) garnered the remaining first-place vote and finished second in the poll with 40 points. The Tigers were regular-season and tournament runners up in 2015 and reached the second round of the NAIA National Championship.

Cumberland (Tenn.) received 37 points, which placed them third. Georgetown (Ky.) is fourth with 33 points.

Cumberlands (Ky.) is fifth in the poll with 24 points. Shawnee State (Ohio) earned 18 points, which is good for sixth place. Life (Ga.) and Pikeville (Ky.) round out the poll with 15 and eight points, respectively.
