Adair principals say excitement is in the air for new school year Teachers meet parents, students at open houses Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Wes Feese, Media Relations, Adair County Schools With students' first day of school now only days away, parents and students came out in huge numbers Monday afternoon for open houses at Adair County Primary, Adair County Elementary, and Adair County Middle School, as well as a freshman orientation at Adair County High School. Both the adults and students expressed enthusiasm about the new school year. "We always have a great turnout and this year is no different," says ACPC Principal Patty Jones. "It's very exciting because we're doing a lot of things for the first time ever. We have new curriculum, and it's always great to see the incoming kindergarteners come in for the first time." At ACES, Principal Steve Burton says he and his staff are ready to get to work. "We just can't wait to get started," Burton says. "We've got a lot of schedule changes and made some new hires and we're just ready to see how we can get better." While the younger students spent Monday learning the lay of the land and meeting their teachers, middle and high school students were able to pick up their schedules and learn the routes they'll walk from class to class for the next few months, as well as some other useful bits of school policy. "We had all of them sit through a short orientation where we went over the school handbook, dress code, and discipline policy," ACMS Principal Alma Rich says. "It was maybe the biggest turnout we've ever had here--just fantastic. Students and parents were very receptive." ACHS Principal Troy Young offered a similar orientation speech at his school. As for the students, many had the same response when asked what they were most looking forward to about the start of school: seeing their friends. Some however, took a more scholarly perspective. "I'm really excited about going to the library," said Cameron Furkin, a first grader at ACPC. This story was posted on 2016-08-09 14:35:51
