KYEM, FEMA Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments include Adair, Metcalfe Adair and Metcalfe included in list of counties to be evaluated by KYEM and FEMA to determine full impact of early July storms Click on headline for complete story FRANKFORT, KY (Mon 1 Aug 2016) – The storms that impacted Kentucky in early July have left many counties still recovering in the wake of severe flooding. Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) officials said the level of damages warrant a joint assessment with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to determine the full impact of the storms and any assistance that may be required with recovery operations. The Commonwealth of Kentucky has requested Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments be conducted for Public Assistance in the counties of: Adair, Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Christian, Clay, Crittenden, Daviess, Edmonson, Hart, Hopkins, Lawrence, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Metcalfe, Ohio, Todd, Trigg, Union, and Webster for the storm event which began on July 3, 2016 and continued through July 9, 2016. This stalled system contained multiple severe storms, torrential rain, severe wind, hail, and tornadoes. The Commonwealth also requested that Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments be conducted for Households and Individual Assistance for residences that were flooded in the counties of Marshall and Todd. "Our Kentucky Emergency Management team has been working with local elected officials and emergency managers to determine any needs in these affected counties since the storms first hit last month. We're appreciative of the FEMA advance team assistance and will facilitate assessments in the listed areas," said director of KYEM, Michael Dossett. At the request of KYEM, FEMA will be sending personnel to Kentucky to begin joint assessments with members from KYEM, state agencies, and local government officials to survey damages and review storm-related expense documentation. There are no shared costs to the state to conduct joint assessments.
