Sen. Max Wise Legislative Update: Fri 29 Jul 2016

Senator Wise expresses pride in Carhart Bassmaster College Tournament National Championship choosing Green River Lake as it venue, which he welcomed on 29 Jul 2016.

By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville)
16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties

FRANKFORT, KY (29 Jul 2015) -This is an exciting time for tourism in our region, as Campbellsville hosted the Carhart Bassmaster College Series National Championship at Green River Lake July 28-30. The college anglers, who qualified through regional tournaments, will be fishing for a chance to compete in the 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by GoPro. A total of 89 teams from 62 colleges throughout the United States will be visiting our communities.

I was honored to welcome the crowd on Friday morning at the opening ceremonies and offered best wishes during their stay in the 16th Senate District.

While the tournament was just starting as I began drafting this column, it will be most exciting to see the field cut to 12 teams on Saturday and then crown a national champion! We are pleased to host this event in Campbellsville. Not only will it have an estimated $200,000 economic impact in the region, but we certainly that these anglers and their families will enjoy Green River Lake and the City of Campbellsville enough to come back and visit over and over again.

Good news for coal jobs in McCreary County

Some other good news came this week in McCreary County on Wednesday night (July 27), when a group of business leaders gathered for an announcement that will bring potentially 80-100 new jobs to the area. Robert Crowder, co-owner of Stearns Energy, announced to that the company would be opening the Stearns Mine Number 2 seam for production in the first or second quarter of next year. Mr. Crowder also said that his company already has an order for up to 100,000 tons of coal per month!

This is wonderful news for McCreary County and the surrounding counties. In a time when Federal regulations make it difficult for one of Kentucky's most profitable industries to operate, it is a breath of fresh air to see an energy company creating new coal jobs right here in the 16th District. I am grateful to Mr. Crowder and his partner Dale Murray for their investment that will bring coal jobs back to McCreary County for the first time in nearly 30 years. As a proud supporter of the coal industry, I am excited about this opportunity for McCreary County.

Will be visiting in area coming week

Next week looks to be another busy one for me personally as I will be traveling across the district and to a few meetings in Frankfort. But as I have said before, I am never too busy to hear from you!
