Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles visited Homeplace on Green River July 14, 2016, to meet with Board members and others interested in Homeplace in his effort to "educate the public about agriculture in Kentucky."

He shares that goal with Homeplace which is recognized by the state as "Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom."

The commissioner noted the significant role Homeplace was already playing in the promotion of agriculture in the Commonwealth and said he would support the farm in his capacity as commissioner of agriculture.

Quarles was also interested in two ongoing efforts at Homeplace to improve soil health. One, a three- year study of cover crops relative to soil health includes students from Green County High School.

The students will gather base-line soil samples and will continue to monitor soils in the project area for the next three years.

Homeplace is also working with the National Resources Conservation Service and several other organizations on funding for an extensive soil and water health research project that will be located at the farm.

Homeplace is located at 5807 Old Columbia Road (Ky highway 55) between Columbia and Campbellsville. The website is: www.homeplacefarmky.org.
