Two persons die as result of single vehicle accident near Knifley

Another in critical condition after 2004 red Nissan Sentry driven by youngest of three sisters, when it leaves roadway on Dunbar Hill and strikes a tree.

COLUMBIA, KY (16 July 2016) On July 15, 2016 at 2:23pmCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office received a call of a single vehicle injury accident on Elkhorn Road, 17 miles east of Columbia, KY.

Deputy Brandon Hitch and Sheriff Harrison Moss responded to the scene and determined that a 2004 red Nissan Sentry being operated by Martha Crouch, age 75, of Columbia, KY, was traveling north on Elkhorn Road, when it left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.



A passenger in the vehicle, Margaret Dunn age 85 of Columbia was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Another passenger in the vehicle, Josephine Hubbard age 83, also of Columbia, KY, was treated on scene by Adair County EMS and airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital, Lexington, KY, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The operator, Martha Crouch is listed in stable but critical condition.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Deputy Hitch and Sheriff Moss were assisted on scene by Adair County EMS, Adair County Search and Rescue, Knifley Fire Department and Adair County Fire Department.
