LWC athletic programs earn 2015-16 NAIA Scholar-Team honors

COLUMBIA, KY – Thirteen Lindsey Wilson College athletic programs earned national recognition on Friday as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics officials announced the 2015-16 NAIA Scholar Teams.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, on a 4.0 scale, as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all student-athletes on the eligibility certificate.



The 13 teams mark the seventh consecutive season Lindsey Wilson athletics has produced double-digit NAIA Scholar Teams. Since the inception of the award in 2006-07, 107 Lindsey Wilson teams have earned the national honor.

The women’s soccer team led the way for the Blue Raiders compiling a 3.66 GPA for the 2015-16 academic year. Women’s swimming is second with a 3.57 GPA followed by men’s swimming at 3.50.

Other Lindsey Wilson NAIA Scholar Teams include women’s tennis (3.47), volleyball (3.41), softball (3.29), women’s golf (3.24), men’s tennis (3.17), men’s soccer (3.16), women’s basketball (3.08), women’s outdoor track and field (3.04), women’s cross country (3.04) and women’s indoor track and field (3.00).

A total of 1,590 NAIA teams earned the distinction during 2015-16. Concordia (NE) and Olivet Nazarene (IL) each produced an NAIA-high 20 scholar teams during the year.
