Beshear provides $450,000 to Transitions Inc. Funding supports treatment for women suffering from alcohol, substance abuse By Terry Sebastian, Crystal Staley Covington, KY - Attorney General Andy Beshear joined state and local officials today in Kenton County to present Transitions Inc., Women's Residential Addiction Program (WRAP) $450,000 to support women suffering from alcohol and substance abuse. A core mission of the Office of the Attorney General is to address Kentucky's drug epidemic by supporting recovery efforts and organizations like Transitions. In the recently passed state budget, lawmakers appropriated funds recovered from the Purdue Pharma case to 15 different recovery facilities and drug treatment centers recommended by the Attorney General that provide a variety of services throughout the Commonwealth. Including Transitions, Beshear has presented nearly $7.5 million in funding to 14 recovery facilities and drug treatment centers across the state. "As a result of this court settlement, my office is able to provide support to Transitions and other deserving drug treatment and recovery agencies throughout the Commonwealth," Beshear said. "Transitions has been saving lives for 47 years. I am honored to support what they are doing to improve the lives of women and their families throughout Northern Kentucky." Transitions is a residential chemical dependency treatment program that serves men and women in the Northern Kentucky area. Services include short-term and long-term residential programs, intensive outpatient treatment, mental health counseling, targeted case management and sober living. Transitions' WRAP House is one of the few residential programs that allow women with children under the age of 12 to reside with them during treatment. Clients that complete residential treatment programs are offered access to outpatient aftercare counseling for up to year. "Transitions Inc. is humbled and grateful to receive the funds from the Commonwealth of Kentucky," said Jim Beiting, CEO of Transitions. "The funding will go a long way to keep the WRAP House operating as a beacon of hope for women struggling with the disease of addiction." "Helping women and families access treatment for drug and alcohol addiction is one of the most important things we can do to stop substance abuse in Northern Kentucky," said Rep. Dennis Keene, of Wilder. "Thanks to Attorney General Beshear, we will have valuable resources to help families and save lives in our community." "Northern Kentucky has been hit especially hard when it comes to addiction, so this money comes at an ideal time as we work to help as many as we can escape this deadly cycle," said state Rep. Arnold Simpson, of Covington. "I was proud to support this spending plan when the General Assembly adopted the budget and am confident that Transitions Inc. will put its portion to good use." Beshear said substance abuse is Kentucky's most overpowering, prevalent problem. He said public officials must support proven and effective programs like Transitions if the state wants to end substance abuse and assist Kentucky families. To date, Beshear has presented funding to Children's Home of Northern Kentucky in Covington; Mountain Comprehensive Care Center in Pikeville; WestCare Kentucky at the Hal Rogers Appalachian Recovery Center in Ashcamp; Independence House in Corbin; KVC Kentucky in Hazard; Kentucky River Community Care in Jackson; Hope in the Mountains in Prestonsburg; Ramey-Estep in Ashland; Recovery Kentucky in Henderson; Chrysalis House in Lexington; Maryhurst and Freedom House in Louisville. Beshear will join officials in Bowling Green Thursday, July 21, to present funding to NECCO, which offers a range of services aimed at family preservation, preventing certain offenses and managing addiction.
