Miss Helen Dean James, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1pmCT/2pmET,at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Hwy 1676 & Norwood-Mt Zion Road, Science Hill, Kentucky with Bro. Troy Merrick officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Science Hill, Kentucky. The Family will receive friends after 5pmCT/6pmET, Sunday, June 19, 2016 at The Mt. Zion United Methodist Church until the funeral hour on Monday.



Miss Helen Dean James, Somerset, KY (1930-2016)


She was born in the Mt. Zion Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky on Saturday, July 19, 1930. She was the daughter of Fred and Hazel Adams James. She died on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation in Somerset, Kentucky, having attained the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

She Graduated from Eubank High School, She was employed by White Castle for over 30 years, The Galt House, Taylor Drugs, Executive Inn, and the University of Louisville food service, all in Louisville, and at Dairy Queen in Somerset, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, John Perry and Lydia Crow James, Millard and Grace Dean Dick-Eastham Adams; her brothers, Charles Dee James, Lloyd Brent James, Rogene James, Narval Leo James; her sister, Janice James New; her brother-in-law, Steve Cassada; her cousin and namesake, Jacqueline Dean Jasper "Jackie" Sexton; her aunts, Altia James, Mary Hester Wesley, and Hattie Mae Wade; and her uncles, William Hardin Adams, Jesse James, and Reubin James.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her sisters: Judy Lynn (and Ronnie) Vaught of Eubank, Kentucky; and Lana Joyce Cassada of Somerset, Kentucky

  • A first cousin whom she loved as a sister: Beverly Wade Randolph of Mobile, Alabama

  • Her sisters-in-law: Wilma James of Indianapolis, Indiana, Margaret James of Science Hill, Kentucky

  • Nieces: Roberta Roberts, Rebecca Boles, Dana Hill, Hazel West, Christa Cassada and Minda Hudson

  • Nephews: Robert James, Mark C. New, Dwayne James, Alan James, Eddie James, David Scott New and Chris Cassada

  • First cousins: Raymond (and Barbara) James, Smythe (and Judy) James, Patsy Clements, Larry (and Bonnie) Wesley, Terry (and Suzanne) Wesley

  • A host of great nieces and nephews
