Paula Eaton shares Dr. Phil Aaron's care and encouragement

By Paula Ball Eaton

Dr. Phil is a man that has never left my heart or memory. I have so many fond words and memories of him. He has always inspired my life in so many ways. I used to aggravate him and tell him he was so awesome because we shared the same birthday! I would have to say out of all the memories the one that inspired me the most was during a time when he was allowing me to do some transcribing/filing for him to pay off a medical bill. I had recently found out that I was going to be an unwed mother and felt embarrassed for him to find out.

I remember we were standing in the reception area of the office on Jamestown Street and he said, "I was disappointed when I heard the news but I realized this could be a good thing because you would now finish college to take care of this child."

Those words never left me. When my son was born, I decided his middle name would be Aaron in honor of Dr. Phil, so many times I told my son, Seth Aaron Eaton, that story of how his middle name was from a great man and physician.

It was also then that I decided I wanted to become a Registered Nurse and I did finish my degree. I had often wondered if he knew I had finished, several years ago he asked my brother about me and he updated him on my life and Dr. Phil just smiled, shook his head and said, "good."

My prayers go up for Dr. Phil to be healed of all his pain and suffering, that God puts his loving arms around him and comforts his family, friends and all those that love him!
