Collaboration Everywhere

By Shamarie Harper
Adair County Schools, Media - PR /Technology Resourse Teacher /Migrant Recruiter

Jennifer Carter, Adair County High School Health Career Teacher, and Sheila Willis, Adair County High School Science Teacher, saw a chance to collaborate and provide students with a hands-on practical application activity today in the form of an AP Bio Circulatory System Lab.

Mrs. Willis has been working on the Circulatory System with her AP Biology class. She wanted to do a Lab that would demonstrate the changes in blood pressure while laying and then sitting immediately after, demonstrating to her students how the blood flows within your body and how it affects you. What better way to get your blood pressure checked than by knowledgeable Health Career Students - NONE!

So, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Willis worked to bring their students together. Mrs. Carter's students were matched up with an AP Biology student and they worked the Lab together. The AP students gathered data and conducted their experiments while the Health Career students took accurate blood pressures for the data collection. WIN - WIN! Everyone had a class period with hands-on learning and using their knowledge to perform a practical real world application of their skills. Way to go, again, ACHS!
