COLUMBIA, Ky. - The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team defeated second-seeded Marian (IN), 4-1, in the first game of the day to force the "if necessary" championship game. However, the Knights eliminated the Blue Raiders in final game on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Lindsey Wilson.

Bailey Mize drove in two runs for Lindsey Wilson (47-14), while recording two hits on the day and Amber Foukes had a pair of RBIs in the first game of the day. Jenna Firestein led the Blue Raiders with three hits against the Knights (47-10).

Game 1 - Lindsey Wilson 4, Marian 1

Marian started the game with three-straight singles to load the bases. Lyndsey Parden was able to get the next two batters out before Sam Pash reached on an error, which also scored a run for the Knights. Parden then retired the next batter to escape the bases loaded jam surrendering just the one run in the first inning.

The Blue Raiders looked to answer in the home half of the inning, but Lindsey Wilson left the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blue Raiders ended their scoreless drought against Marian as they scored three runs in the inning. Lindsey Wilson started the inning with three-straight singles to load the bases. Mize then reached base on error, to drive in Firestein.

After Marian recorded the next two outs without allowing a run, Foukes delivered a two-run double down the left field line to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead after five innings.

Lindsey Wilson picked up an insurance run in the sixth inning as Firestein led off the inning with an infield single. The Knights then retired the next Blue Raider hitter, but Firestein was able to move up to second base on the play. Syndey Fourman reached base on an error at first base, which allowed Firestein to score from second base to put the Blue Raiders up, 4-1.

Parden was able to shut the door on Marian late in the game as she retired 18 of the final 19 batters to secure the 4-1 victory for Lindsey Wilson.

With the victory, the Blue Raiders forced the "if necessary" championship game. Parden (26-5) pitched all seven innings allowing just one unearned run on four hits - three of which came in the first inning.

Breena Smith (26-5) was tagged with the loss for the Knights as she pitched five innings allowing three runs - one earned - on six hits. Grace Lumpkin pitched the final inning for Marian giving up an unearned run on one hit.

Game 2 - Marian 2, Lindsey Wilson 1

After two and half scoreless innings, Marian broke through in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of two out runs. The Knights loaded the bases with two outs in the inning and Mackenzie Reeder hit a single to left-centerfield to score two runs.

After being held without a run through the first five innings, the Blue Raiders were able to get one run across in the top of the sixth inning. Firestein led off the inning with a single down the left field line, but she was put out on fielder's choice from Callum Pilgrim. Pilgrim moved up to second base after Fourman reached on an error. Mize drove in Pilgrim with a single to right-centerfield, which brought Lindsey Wilson within a run.

The Blue Raiders looked to tie the game, but Lindsey Wilson left two runners on base to end the sixth inning.

Smith kept the Blue Raiders offense in check in the final inning as she retired the side in order.

Casey Bryan (20-8) threw all six innings allowing two runs on seven hits for Lindsey Wilson.

Smith (27-5) pitched a complete game for the Knights allowing just one run on four hits.

Marian now advances to the NAIA World Series in Sioux City, Iowa starting on May 27. The Blue Raiders complete their season with a record of 47-14.
