LWC baseball team earns at-large bid to NAIA tourney

Lindsey Wilson placed in Lawrenceville Bracket

By David Gerhart

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team earned an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship and were placed in the Lawrenceville Bracket, the national office announced on Friday.

Lindsey Wilson is the No. 3 seed in the Lawrenceville Bracket hosted by Georgia Gwinnett. Joining the Blue Raiders in their opening round bracket is top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett, seconded-seeded Indiana Southeast, fourth-seeded Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and fifth-seeded British Columbia.

The double-elimination opening round bracket games are slated to be played May 17-20 at the Grizzly Baseball Complex in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Lindsey Wilson faces Indiana Southeast in their first game of the tournament.

The Blue Raiders are 0-2 against the Grenadiers this season with Indiana Southeast winning once at home and once at Egnew Park. Lindsey Wilson has not faced Georgia Gwinnett, Olivet Nazarene or British Columbia this season.

This is Lindsey Wilson's fourth appearance in the opening round, where they hold a record of 8-4. The last appearance for the Blue Raiders came last season where they won the Kingsport Bracket to make their first appearance at the Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.

Forty-five teams are scheduled to compete in nine opening round brackets across the country. The winner of each bracket will join host Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at the Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho on May 27 - June 3.
