Willis, faithful companion, trails along with me. He slid behind the wet stalks of a peony while I poked about to see what damage the latest deluge had created. This is the first year of bloom in my iris bed--they held up well until a pounding Sunday morning rain left many of them stooped and tattered. The single-flowered rugosas were in place when we acquired the farm.
