ST. CATHARINE, KY - The No. 24-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team split a doubleheader with St. Catharine (KY) on Saturday at Edelen-Haydon Field.

The Blue Raiders (33-19, 13-7 MSC) captured the opener 2-0 on the strength of a late rally and an outstanding pitching performance, but fell 5-1 in the scheduled seven-inning nightcap to the Patriots (31-19, 9-11 MSC).

With the first game victory, combined with additional results from around the conference, the Blue Raiders clinched at least a share of the MSC regular season title. Lindsey Wilson will have a shot to claim the outright conference title on Sunday in the series and regular-season finale against St. Catharine.

GAME 1: Lindsey Wilson 2. St. Catharine 0

Timely hitting in the top of the ninth backed up Scott Sebald's gem in the opener as the Blue Raiders won 2-0.

It was a pitcher's duel for the majority of the game as the contest was scoreless through eight complete innings. Sebald and St. Catharine's Daniel Lerma had little trouble working their way through the opposing lineup as the duo combined to allow just seven hits in the first eight innings.

Both pitchers had multiple one-two-three innings and each retired a string of eight-consecutive batters during the game.

The first scoring threat of the contest came from St. Catharine when the Patriots had runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the second, but Sebald got out of the jam with a pair of groundouts to keep things scoreless.

Lindsey Wilson's offense struggled to find a rhythm and managed to put runners on second base just three times in the opening eight frames, with no runner advancing to third base.

That all changed in the top of the ninth when Edgar Lebron led off with a double and later moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jan Carlos Ortiz. Javoni Thomas was then intentionally walked to set up the double play, bringing Austin Atwell to the plate. Atwell, who was 2-for-3 coming into the at-bat, continued his success against Lerma as he delivered a single up the middle to score Lebron and give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.

Victor Nazario followed immediately after with a pinch-hit RBI single to score pinch-runner Ray Gonzalez from second and make it a 2-0 lead.

The two runs would be enough for Sebald as he cruised in the ninth, retiring the Patriots in order to secure the victory.

Sebald (7-3) tossed a two-hit, complete game shutout, just his second complete game of the season. He struck out eight batters and issued just two walks, tossing 112 pitches which included 82 strikes. The top four batters in St. Catharine's lineup were a combined 0-for-16 against Sebald. The victory marked Sebald's 25th of his career, moving him into first place on the program's all-time win list.

Lerma took the loss, allowing the two earned runs while scattering eight hits.

GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 1. St. Catharine 5

The second contest saw the Lindsey Wilson offense struggle once again, but no late-inning rally was in store this time as the Blue Raiders managed just three hits.

St. Catharine wasted little time take the lead in game two, plating the opening run in the bottom of the first.

The Patriots' Tyler Devine hit a two-out single to right-center to score the run. St. Catharine later had bases loaded, but starting pitcher Aaron Doughty got a strikeout to end the inning and prevent further damage.

St. Catharine then poured in four runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a pair of Blue Raider errors and a bases-clearing triple by Alfredo Bohorquez. Bohorquez would later score on a groundout to make it a 5-0 St. Catharine lead.

Following a scoreless third, Lindsey Wilson finally got on the board after Nazario belted a solo home run to centerfield to cut the deficit to 5-1.

But that would be it for the scoring as the Lindsey Wilson relief staff of Daniel Ferrell and James Roll along with St. Catharine starter Joan Pena finished out the final three frames without allowing a run. The Blue Raiders collected just one hit in the final three innings.

Doughty (5-5) took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, while scattering four hits in his three innings. Pena picked up the complete-game victory for St. Catharine.

Seven different Patriots recorded a hit in the game two victory.
