Ms Helen Flatt's Single Peonies are about ready to burst forth to announce the practical arrival of Summer. The official arrival is June 21st, of course, but these big ol' floppy, Single Peonies have not failed the "practical arrival" test since she gave them to me and I hope they will be right again this year.

Earth Day Plant Sale at LWC benefits natural area projects

Lindsey Wilson College students will be selling plants for Earth Day on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4pm-7pmCT and on Saturday April 23, 2016 from 10am-12pmNoonCT in the Biology Department greenhouse, Fugitte Science Center, Lindsey Wilson College. "This is the fifth year for the sale and our variety of plants is bigger and better than ever. Aside from our large inventory of vegetable seedlings, including more than 20 varieties each of tomato and pepper and 14 types of herb, we will also be selling houseplants, succulents, and wide selection of pollinator-friendly native plants; e.g., flowering dogwood, purple coneflower, smooth aster, buttonbush, sweetgum, etc. Prices are affordable, generally from $1.00-$2.00 per individual plant or cell pack, and the proceeds will be used to fund natural area projects on campus as well as for greenhouse maintenance." The greenhouse is located on the fourth floor of the Fugitte Science Building, 411 Helen Flatt Drive, and is accessible by elevator. Ms. Flatt's peonies, growing in Billy Joe Fudge's yard, have flower buds ready to pop open any day now. This year, almost two months before the official start of Summer - June 21, 2016 - the peonies are announcing the practical arrival of Summer.
