Mobley and Munoz earn MSC Athlete honors

By Charlie Balcom

For the fourth week in a row, Desmond Mobley has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

For the third time this season, Henar Munoz has been selected as the Mid-South Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Mobley, a sophomore from Rochester, New York, collected two top-five finishes at the Austin Peay Governors Invitational. He finished in fourth place in the high jump with a height of 2.05 meters, which broke the previous men’s program record of 2.02 meters, and qualified as a national “B” standard.

Mobley then picked up a victory in the long jump with a distance of 7.43 meters, which beat out 14 other competitors, for his fourth long jump victory of the outdoor track and field season.

It is Mobley’s fourth conference weekly award of his career. He has won every weekly conference award for field events in the 2016 outdoor season.

Henar Munoz also picked up the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor on Feb. 22 and March 7.

The sophomore from Albacete, Spain provided a pair of wins at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions last week as the No. 3-ranked Blue Raiders swept Georgetown and Pikeville.

Munoz notched straight-set wins in singles play while she and doubles partner Natalia Kattah dropped just three games in their two doubles wins.

Munoz is 9-9 this season at No. 1 singles and 15-4 in No. 1 doubles.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 15-4 on the season with last week's wins.

The weekly honor is Munoz’s fourth of her career.
