Included will be mule and ox cart rides, butter making, black smithing and lots of friendly animals. The only cost will be a $5 per car parking fee and for food purchases. There will be a petting farm, exotic animals, and demonstrations and exhibits. Farrier Deb Webster will be shoeing horses. Deb's customers will be Mark and Anita's rescue horses Ted Standardbred and former race horse Folks. Blacksmith George Williams will also be working his forge, and Levi Miller, a leather worker who will make leather key chains for kids 12 and under. Taylor County Extension Office Nutritional Education Assistant Angie Freeman will be providing information on the nutritional benefits of dairy products and will help youngsters churn their own butter to take home with them. Jay Rose, a scrimshaw artist, will be demonstrating his skills. Scrimshaw began with the art of engraving on whale bone and ivory, but Rose does his miniature art on deer antler. There will be historical re-enactors representing several eras in Homeplace's history, miniature horses, goats, and corn toss and horseshoes games. The Exie Boys will return to Homeplace to provide their lively bluegrass and early American music. They proved popular at several past Homeplace fall festivals. The ladies from Eunice Church of God will be preparing beans corn bread and Green County's super chef Smokin' Joe Creason will offer his country ham biscuits and pork tenderloin. Smokin' Joe has also cooked for several previous Homeplace events. The plow day at Homeplace is part of the farm's mission to showcase the colorful history of Kentucky agriculture. The farm was first settled in 1804 and is being restored. This past February Homeplace was proclaimed Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom by the state's senate and is open year around for hiking, picnics, bird watching and other outdoor activities. Homeplace is located at 5807 New Columbia Rd. (Highway 55) between Columbia and Campbellsville and is a joint project of Adair, Green and Taylor counties. It depends on volunteers interested in community service. Additional information about the farm is available at the www.homeplacefarmky.org or on the Facebook page at Homeplace on Green River Ky.
