LWC's Mobley and Hughes collect wins in T&F

BOWLING GREEN, KY - (Sat 9 Apr 2016) A pair of Blue Raiders achieved individual event wins over the weekend for the Lindsey Wilson men’s outdoor track and field team, doing so at two separate venues.



Half of the men’s team attended the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays while the other half competed at the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Invitational. Desmond Mobley won the long jump at the Hilltopper Relays, while Matthew Hughes won the shot put event at the Cumberlands Invite.

Mobley captured the win in the long jump with a distance of 7.26 meters (23-10.00 feet) to top the field of 21, beating out the second-place finisher by .02 meters for his victory.

Hughes won the shot put with a distance of 13.63 meters, beating out second place by .53 meters to top the field of 35 competitors.

A number of Blue Raiders also saw success at the Hilltopper Relays.

In the triple jump, Anthony Thompson opened his outdoor season with a leap of 14.57 meters (47-09.75 feet), achieving a national “A” standard and setting a new personal best in the process. Thompson would finish eighth out of 14 in the event.

Kevin Hallmon had a strong day at the relays. He began with a third-place finish in the 100 meter dash after his time of 10.67 seconds tied the school record. He followed with another top-five finish after claiming fifth place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.67, narrowly missing out on a national "B" standard.

Not far behind Hallmon finished Dondre Mimms in the 100 and 200 meters. Mimms took seventh in the 100 meters after winning his heat, and finished one spot behind Hallmon in the 200 meters in sixth place with a time of 21.70, also just missing out on a national “B” cut.

The duo of Hallmon and Mimms, along with Austin Hayes and Holt Keeling teamed up for a third-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 41.51. Hayes also ran in the 100 and 200 meters, claiming 13th in both races.

Cameron Murphy qualified for the outdoor championships after his fifth-place finish time of 53.99 in the 400 meter hurdles. Dante Johnson finished one spot behind Murphy in sixth place in the event.

Johnson added another top-10 finish after he took ninth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.71. His time not only won his heat and set a new school record, but is also the fifth-fastest time this season in the NAIA.

John-Paul Williamson collected a pair of top-15 finishes, doing so in the 800 and 1,500 run events. Williamson finished 11th out of 30 in the 800 meters and 14th out of 45 in the 1,500 meters.

In the javelin throw, Tylor Pinkard claimed seventh place while Austin Sparrow finished eighth.

At the University of the Cumberlands Invitational, Ben Graham notched a career best with a time of 24:28.80 in the 5,000 meter racewalk, achieving a national “B” standard. He finished second overall.

Anthony Hampton and Andrew Hedgespeth also competed in the shot put, Hampton finishing eighth and Hedgespeth taking 10th place.

Corey Hinkle recorded a pair of top-10 finishes at Cumberlands, taking fifth in the discus throw and 10th in the javelin throw.
