LWC's Chanel Roberts wins shot put at Cumberlands Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, KY – (Sat 9 Apr 2016) Chanel Roberts won the shot put event for the Lindsey Wilson women’s outdoor track and field team on Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.

Roberts topped the field of 34 competitors with her distance of 13.33 meters, beating out the second-place distance of 12.75 meters.



Emma Looney also saw success in the field events at Cumberlands, finishing eighth behind Roberts in the shot put with a career-best distance of 11.04 meters, and adding a sixth place finish in the hammer throw with her toss of 34.63 meters.

Rachel Green added the final top-10 finish for the Blue Raiders at the Cumberlands Invite, notching a sixth-place finish in the high jump after her distance of 1.47 meters.

A number of Blue Raiders also competed at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays, achieving multiple personal bests against mainly NCAA Division I competition.

Alexia DeHaven-Boyd continued her strong start to the 2016 outdoor season. She ran a career best time of 1:06.06 in the 400 meter hurdles at the Hilltopper Relays, just missing out on the school record. She finished 15th out of 29 competitors in the event. Oreatha Hurt finished three spots behind DeHaven-Boyd in 18th place in the event, achieving a career-best time of 1:07.89. Brandy Baas also competed in the event, hitting her own career best with a time of 1:16.20.

Heather Wilson added another career best for the second meet in a row, achieving it in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31.02.

Kimberley Stevens collected a 20th-place finish in the long jump event on the day with a distance of 5.11 meters (16-09.25 feet).
